1. DESCRIPTION
The Men’s Open Championship refers to the Open Championship of the club which is open to all eligible male playing members.
2. HISTORY
Sam McCallum won the first Eaglemont Golf Club Championship Medal on 5 October 1901. A replica of the medal is on display in the Clubhouse foyer. The leading qualifier medal was first awarded by Frank Marrie, who was President of the Club from 1953 to 1961 and also served on Committee from 1952. He was appointed a Life Member in 1964.
3. EVENT TYPE
Honour Board and Perpetual Trophy.
4. COMPETITION
- Qualifying played over 36 Holes, with best 8 gross scores to qualify for scratch Match play rounds.
- The Quarter finals and Semi-finals shall be over 18 holes with the Final played on one day over 36 holes.
- The competition is played on the blue course.
- The leading qualifier will be presented with the “F G Marrie Medal”. In the event of a tie, the Marrie Medal winner will be determined by the GA countback system.
- Match play rounds to be played as scheduled in the golf program.
5. ELIGIBILITY
- Open to all categories of male membership with a GA handicap of 5.5 or less. Members who enter the Open Championship are not eligible to enter another Grade Championship.
6. TIES
- In the event of ties after the qualifying rounds the following method shall be used:
- All players tying for the final position in the 8 shall compete in sudden death play-off commencing at Hole 1 until there are only 8 qualifiers.
- The Golf Committee will nominate a time and date for any play-off, usually immediately after the completion of the qualifying rounds. On the final day of qualifying, it is the player’s responsibility to check if they are likely to be in a playoff before they leave the club. In the event that players tying does not attend the play-off they will be automatically disqualified.
7. ENTRY
- Competitors shall nominate for the event by entering their names on the Entry sheet. Competitors who enter for the Open Championship are not eligible to enter the Grade Championships. Entries will close two weeks before the qualifying round to enable a draw to be made and published.
- Late entries will not be accepted.
- Any player who cannot be available to play each qualifying round and all of the subsequent match play rounds is will not be eligible to enter the competition to avoid walkovers.
8. DRAW
- The draw for match play shall be done on a seeding based on the qualifying scores as follows; (1 V’s 8, 4 V’s 5, 2 V’s 7, 3 V’s 6).
- The draw is confirmed once it is published. Any late withdrawals will result in a walkover.
- The GA count back system will be used to establish seedings for players with the same score
- The player whose name appears on the top of each match shall have the honour on the first tee.
9. PRESENTATIONS
- Presentations of trophies will be made at the Championship Day presentations. Winners will be acknowledged and photographed, plus the Club will provide hospitality for the competitors, caddies, supporters and the referee.
