1. HISTORY
A four ball match play knockout competition first played in 1948. The trophy was donated by Member Phil Oates to commemorate the contribution of Les Shaw in developing the site at Bentleigh East. Les Shaw served on Committee in 1927 and 1928. After becoming Club Captain in 1929, he served a further term on Committee from 1931 to 1935. He provided excellent liaison between the course designer Alex Russell, the green keeper and the Committee as the course was being constructed.
2. EVENT TYPE
- Honour Board.
3. COMPETITION
- Fourball knockout event with all matches to commence from 1st tee as scheduled in the golf program.
4. ELIGIBILITY
- Open to Life, 7 Day, 7 Day Summer, 7 Day Waiting, 6 Day, Eligible Young and Junior Members.
5. TIES
- In the event that a match is square after 18 holes, play shall continue from Hole 1 in sudden death until a decision is reached. Strokes will be taken again as at the start of the match.
6. ENTRY
- Competitors shall nominate for the event by entering their names on the Entry sheet. Entries will close two weeks before the Round 1 or when 64 entries have been received.
- Partners can be changed in the draw up until the commencement of their first scheduled match.
- Late entries will not be accepted.
- Any player who cannot play in all the scheduled match play rounds is asked not to enter the competition to avoid walkovers.
7. DRAW
- A random draw will be made from the entries received.
- If entered, the previous year’s Winners and Runners-Up will be automatically drawn in Round 1 at seeded position 1 and 2.
