General Conditions
1. GENERAL
The Terms of Competition have been developed to clarify matters relating to the basis under which Men’s competitions are regularly conducted by the The Yarra Yarra Golf Club.
2. EVENT DETAIL
All Men’s Major Events include the following information:

- Event Type – Honour Board or Trophy
- Description of Competition
- Eligibility of Members
- General Competition Conditions
- Ties, Entries, Draws, Walkovers, Protests and Practice

3. DEFINITIONS
- A Major Event is an event that has a Perpetual Trophy and or Honour Board
- A Scratch Event is an event where the Gross Score decides the winning score.
4. AMATEUR STATUS
- All Golfers are amateur unless they:
- Accept a prize that is not allowed under the R and A Rules of Amateur Status.
- Play in a golf competition as a professional.
- Accept payment of compensation for giving instruction that is not allowed under the R and A Rules of Amateur Status.
- Are employed (Including self-employed) as a golf club or driving range professional.
- Hold membership of an association for professional golfers.
- An amateur who takes any of these actions becomes a non-amateur until being re-instated as an amateur under the R and A Rules of Amateur Status.
- Non-Amateur Golfers are not eligible to enter Club Championships, Major Events, Monthly Medals, or Scratch Events.

5. GENERAL CONDITIONS
The following conditions apply to all events in the Terms of Competition unless otherwise specifically stated in an event.
6. ELIGIBILITY
6.1 All weekly Club Competitions are open to all male financial Members who have playing rights on the day of competition.
6.2 Major Events, Saturday Medals and Scratch events are only open to Members who are amateur golfers.
6.3 Restricted, Intermediate, Absentee and Introductory Members are not eligible for any Major or Medal Events.
6.4 Any Member upon joining Yarra Yarra must have a minimum of 20 rounds in the handicap record in Golf Link to be eligible for a Major Event or Saturday Medal.
7. GENERAL CONDITIONS APPLYING TO ALL EVENTS
7.1 A non-amateur golfer is not allowed to caddy for any competitor.
7.2 The only competitors permitted to use any ride-on equipment or golf carts are those members who have previously been given written permission by the Golf Committee. In exceptional medical circumstances, extreme heat and for golfers over the age of 70, competitors may seek special dispensation from the Club Captain, or in their absence the Head Professional.
8 MATCHPLAY DRAW
8.1 When a qualifying round or rounds is played the draw for match play shall be done on a seeding based on the qualifying scores as follows;
1 V’s 8
4 V’s 5
2 V’s 7
3 V’s 6
8.2 When a draw is conducted for a Match Play event without a qualifying round it will be a random draw.
8.3 The GA count back system will be used to establish seedings for players with the same score.
8.4 The draw is confirmed once it is published. Any withdrawals after the draw is published will result in a walkover.
8.5 In the event that both players cannot play by the nominated date, then both players will be disqualified unless the Club Captain allows an extension to the date the match is due to be played.
9. MATCHPLAY COMPETITION
9.1 Matches played in 2’s have the right of way on the course at all times.
9.2 Practice on the course on the day of a match play competition is allowed provided it does not interfere with other Member’s use of the course.
9.3 The player whose name appears on the top of each match shall have the honour on the first tee.
9.4 Caddies are permitted in Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals of Major events.
9.5 A referee will normally be appointed by the Golf Committee for the Final. Players can seek a ruling at any time from the referee. The decision of the referee is final.
9.6 All ties in match play shall proceed to the 19th hole (the hole the match started on) and continue playing until a result is determined. If a match is not completed because of failing light, the match will resume at a time determined by the Golf Committee. Play to continue from the last hole played.
9.7 In the event that a player is forced to give a walkover, it is the player’s responsibility to advise their opponent immediately. If both players are unavailable to play on the date of play both are disqualified. The Golf Committee may require the player to provide an explanation for their withdrawal.
10. THE GOLF AUSTRALIA (GA) COUNTBACK SYSTEM
10.1 Where stated the Golf Australian (GA) count-back system will be exercised in the event of deciding ties.
The GA count-back system requires the best score for the last 9 holes to be used. If there is still a tie the last 6 holes are counted, if still a tie, the last 3 holes. If a tie persists, then hole by hole from the 18th.
When the competition is a Stroke event 1/2, 1/3 or 1/6 of the player’s handicap is deducted.
11. GOLF COMMITTEE AND PROTESTS
11.1 The Golf Committee has the right to vary the Terms of Competition at any time.
11.2 The Golf Committee may vary the scheduled time and/or date of both the qualifying rounds and any match in exceptional circumstances.
11.3 Decisions made by either the Club Captain or the Golf Committee are final.
11.4 The Golf Committee or its nominated member, or the Head Professional, has the power to cancel or suspend play at any time.
11.5 Any protest by a competitor must be lodged in writing with the Golf Committee not later than 30 minutes after the conclusion of the competitors qualifying round.
12. RESCHEDULING MAJOR EVENTS
Major events played over 18 holes will be rescheduled as follows:
- A major event shall be rescheduled if half the daily field is cancelled due to weather related conditions. eg; the morning or afternoon field is washed out. In circumstances such as this when half the day is cancelled the daily competition grades will still be awarded.
- The event shall be played on another date in accordance with a format approved by the Golf Committee.
- 36 hole Major event results will be decided on:
- Cancellation of Round 1 – The result for the event shall be decided on Round 2 results only.
- Cancellation of Round 2 – The result for the event shall be decided on Round 1 results only.
Where both rounds are cancelled – The event shall be rescheduled to other dates in accordance with a format approved by the Golf Committee
