Junior Pennant Round 4 Review
Posted on: 6 November
Yarra Yarra’s young team faced a tough challenge against Spring Valley on Sunday with all of our players having to give a significant number of shots to their opposition on a sunny but quite windy afternoon at Yarra Yarra.
Once again David Zhu was quick out of the blocks and with Shanaiah keeping him focussed he was four up at the turn and playing great golf. David finally won 5 and 4 to give us our first point. Jaidon Herath, with Jerry caddying, was getting plenty of pars but so was his opponent who was receiving shots on most holes which left Jaidon 4 down at the turn. His match finished on the 14th, so now it was 1 point all. William Sam, with Johnny Mustac giving plenty of sage advice had a real fight on his hands having to give a shot on every hole. Playing great golf Will clawed his way to a 2 and 1 victory.
That left three matches in the balance. Oliver Drury, with Stuart on the bag, turned 1 up after birdies on 8 and 9 to only halve each hole. Oscar was fighting hard and was only 1 down after nine with Corey giving him plenty of support. Vivian Zhai’s opponent, playing off 30, went two up after tap in pars on the first and second holes. However, with plenty of encouragement from Tori and some great shot making she managed to get back to square by the ninth.
Oscar finally got on top of his opponent and won three and two after a strong back nine. The contest now came down to the last two matches which both went to the 18th. Oliver made a great par to win one up and Vivian never giving up followed suit moments later with the same result. So we finished with a well-earned five to one victory.
We have now won four out of four with our final match to be at Southern on Sunday.
Well done again Eagles and a big thanks to our caddies and supporters.
