Amelia Harris and Phoenix Campbell Win Riversdale Cup

Yarra Yarra Members Amelia Harris and Phoenix Campbell are the 2023 Riversdale Cup champions after they each claimed a dramatic victory on Sunday.
In the men’s, Campbell finished one shot clear of Harry Takis, Kyle Hayter, Siddharth Nadimpalli and Samuel Slater at eight-under par with a birdie at the 72nd hole.
The Yarra Yarra member held onto his overnight lead with an even-par final round of 72 but it looked as if he had let it slip when he started the final day par-bogey-bogey-bogey and his rivals came charging.
Queenslander Takis shot the lowest round of the day with a 67, while South Australian Hayter was also very impressive with a 68 but neither of their efforts were enough to rein in Campbell as he steadied with three back nine birdies to secure his first triumph in a World Amateur Golf Ranking event.
Fellow Yarra Yarra member Harris followed a similar script as she also made birdie at the final hole to claim a one shot victory.
Harris finished one-over par with a 74 in the last round, but it was enough to hold off Sydneysider Annika Rathbone who closed out the tournament with a 71.
The win adds to Harris’ growing reputation as one of the most promising young talents in Australian golf. In 2022 she qualified for the ISPS HANDA Australian Open at only 14 years of age, and earlier in the year she was part of the victorious Victorian team at the Australian Interstate Teams Matches.
The Riversdale Cup is one of Australia’s leading stroke play events with players from all over the country competing in one of the strongest fields of the amateur calendar.
Amelia and Phoenix join a list of some of Australia’s best amateur golfers as winners including Yarra Yarra Members Kevin Hartley who won the event 10 times, Trevor Henley and Robert Allenby.
