Junior Pennant Round 5

Posted on: 11 November

Our final round was played on Sunday 10 November at Southern and with a finals birth already locked away, our prize for a win or a tie would be the coveted number one seed going into the finals. For the first time this season many of our players received shots from the highly credentialed Southern Golf Club team.

With several of our regular players on state duty, we had Youth pennant players Kirk Kryskow and James Murto helping us out. Thanks to both. Kirk and his opponent for the day both played almost flawless golf and with nothing between them all day and both only one over the card, Kirk holed a clutch three foot put on the last to square the match. David Zhu hit the ball well, but his putter let him down a couple of times and he went down to his good mate on the 16th hole. James also had a tough opponent and after being a couple down early, after his ball found the water twice, he rallied, turning square and then putting the foot down to win 3 and 2

Oliver came up against a good player who was on fire. Three consecutive birdies and a couple of long bombs saw Oli 5 down at the turn and despite getting one back, the relentless great putting from his opponent saw the match finishing on the 13th. His opponent off 6 finishing well under the card!

With two matches lost and William Sam 3 down on several occasions, the contest was slipping away. Vivian Zhai however was once again playing very steady golf. She turned three up and pushed on for a strong 5 and 4 victory with some wonderful shot making against a very tricky young opponent. This left the final match with Will making a charge of the back nine. After an adventurous last two holes the match ended square which meant that the contest for the day was tied.

This now means that we are seeded first out of 40 teams and go straight into a semi final on Saturday week at Royal Melbourne, a fantastic result. Thanks again to our caddies, Sin Sam, Marcus Bygrave, Jerry Zhu, Zac and Johnny Mustac. Well done Eagles
