Junior Pennant – Round 3
Posted on: 28 October
On Sunday our Yarra Yarra Eagles headed to Woodlands to play their round three Junior Pennant match. Once again, several of our players got off to a quick start led by number one and Captain for the day David Zhu with James Murto on the bag. After a birdie on the first and two more by the seventh David turned five up and three under the card. The match ended on the 14th with a 6 and 5 victory and our first point on the board. Oliver Drury, with his father Stuart caddying, followed suit with a 6 and 4 victory after a front nine of just 33. Vivian Zhai played fantastic golf with Tori Sam keeping her smiling. Despite losing the first hole Vivian fired up with an eagle on nine followed by a tap in birdie on 10. Another 6 and 5 victory meant we had three matches over the line. However, we were down in all three remaining matches. Will Sam with Johnny Mustac keeping him going, turned around a three-shot deficit to win 3 and 2 and give us the final point we needed. Then in a great fight back, James Andrews with plenty of encouragement from Anton, came back from three down twice to roll in a 20-foot putt on the 18th to halve the match. In the final match Jack Susic with Ian assisting fought it out to the 18th hole to go down by the narrowest margin. Another great team win sees us on top of the ladder after three matches. We play at home next Sunday against Spring Valley.
