Herbert Darvall Trophy
Posted on: 19 June
The Herbert Darvall Trophy is one of the most sought after trophies on the men’s club calendar and has been won by Harry Crawford following a playoff on Saturday 17 June.
After tying on a score of 144 over 36 holes Harry and Craig Sanford played an 18 hole stroke playoff with Harry winning with a net 77.
Herbert Darvall was Club President in 1911 and 1912, and Club Captain in 1913 and 1916, when the Club was still at Rosanna. In 1937 he donated a cup to the Club as a perpetual trophy for an annual competition which was to be known as the Founders’ Cup. In 1953 the Committee revised the conditions of play to run as an aggregate handicap stroke event to be played over two consecutive Saturday rounds.
The winner is entitled the right ‘to have the trophy tankard filled at the expense of any member, at the cost of two shillings and sixpence, but not more frequently than once per day.’ The Committee has since ruled that the cost will remain at 25 cents.
